Ann Lewis2024-05-02 New Chapter is truly a beautiful place of miracles. I highly recommend this heavenly place of healing and recovery from addiction. New Chapter Faith Based Recovery Centre is by far the best addiction recovery centre that my son has experienced. It is the only Christian addiction recovery centre that effectively worked for our son after trying several recovery places in the past. As a mom, I've been praying 🙏 for my son to receive God's best for his life. I believe that New Chapter ✨️ was the answer to my prayers. My husband is also very happy to see a "New Chapter" in our son's life. Here our son found his way back to the Lord and understands that the Lord has a very special abundant plan for his life. The moment I spoke with Ann on the phone that day, I knew the Lord was directing our son to New Chapter. Jim and I so very much appreciate Ann's warm, gracious and compassionate heart ❤️ for our son's mental health and well-being. All glory to God for the great things that He has done for our son through the ministry of New Chapter. Our son is miraculously starting an amazing "New Chapter" in his life. What is Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)?
Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is an evidence-based approach to treating addiction that combines medication with counseling and behavioral therapies. The medications used in MAT are designed to reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms, making it easier for individuals to stay in recovery. By using specific medication with professional therapy sessions, an effective approach to substance use disorder is introduced.
MAT combines medical treatment with evidence-based psychosocial support to help individuals achieve long-term sobriety. The medication helps to reduce cravings, triggers, and withdrawal symptoms, while counseling and behavioral therapies help to address the underlying causes of addiction. MAT is tailored to meet the individual needs of each patient, providing a comprehensive approach that takes into account the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual aspects of recovery.
Services in our outpatient treatment programs include:
- Individual Counseling

Medication Assisted Drug Rehabilitation Programs Frequently Asked Questions
What are the diagnostic criteria?
While doing any treatment program with outpatient services, we need to look at the whole picture of each individual client.
We work from the DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) to properly create treatment plans for our clients. Addiction is categorized with 11 criteria that can be summarized in four main components:
- Physical dependence (feeling the need for the substance to function)
- Risky use (behaviors to obtain the substance that put you or others at risk)
- Social problems (losing relationships with family members or friends)
- Impaired control (having the desire to stop using the substance but unable to manage it)
How can I maintain sobriety after leaving medication assisted treatment in outpatient settings?
Relapse management is an important component of any treatment program but a focal point of education in an intensive outpatient program setting.
In individual therapy sessions, you will learn individualized coping skills for your substance abuse triggers and co-occurring mental health issues. In group therapy, you will learn coping strategies from others’ intensive outpatient programs you can take with you forever.
When you successfully discharge from your outpatient treatment program, you will continue with the relationships you built in support groups and be part of our family for life!
What does the Mental Health Services Administration say about medication assisted treatment programs?
The Mental Health Services Administration shares:
The use of medications, in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies, to provide a “whole-patient” approach to the treatment of substance use disorders. Medications used are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and are clinically driven and tailored to meet each patient’s needs.
Research shows that a combination of medication and therapy can successfully treat substance use disorders, and for some medications can help sustain recovery. Medications are also used to prevent or reduce opioid overdose.
The ultimate goal is full recovery, including the ability to live a self-directed life. This treatment approach has been shown to:
- Improve patient survival
- Increase retention in treatment
- Decrease illicit opiate use and other criminal activity among people with substance use disorders
- Increase patients’ ability to gain and maintain employment
- Improve birth outcomes among women who have substance use disorders and are pregnant
How Does MAT Work?
MAT works by reducing or even eliminating cravings or withdrawals associated with drug use. By doing so, individuals are better able to focus on their recovery and engage in counseling and behavioral therapies that can help them overcome their addiction. Our team monitors your process and is by your side the whole way to guarantee safe and effective treatment.
In addition to reducing cravings and withdrawal symptoms, MAT has been shown to improve overall health outcomes among individuals with substance use disorders. For example, studies have found that individuals who receive MAT are more likely to stay in treatment longer and have lower rates of relapse compared to those who do not receive medication. MAT continues to be a widely used and extremely effective form of addiction treatment.
What medication is used during MAT?
Specific medication is used during the process to manage cravings and other symptoms. In turn, this allows a person to focus on other parts of treatment and therapy during the process. Our medication-assisted treatment in NJ is overseen by medical professionals with years of experience helping people just like you.
There are two main types of medications used in MAT:
- Vivitrol: Vivitrol is the injection form of naltrexone pills. Clients who have an opioid or alcohol use disorder will be encouraged to receive Vivitrol shot prior to discharge from our IOP, which will be administered by our medical team at our facility.
- Naltrexone: Unlike methadone and buprenorphine, naltrexone is not an opioid. Instead, it works by blocking the effects of opioids on the brain. This makes it an effective medication for preventing relapse among individuals who have already detoxed from opioids.
